Challenge 1:

Carefully look at the cover of 'Two Hands Together'. Discuss together what the front cover tells  you, as if you were describing it to a blind person. Why does your team think the story is called 'Two Hands Together'? You may wish to make a poster about what you have discussed as a group. This can then be put up in your room for any others students who are interested in reading 'Two Hands Together'.

Challenge 2:

Read pages 1-16 (top of page). Each person in your team should take a different character who has been introduced in the story so far, and write a description of them.  Your team should then draw a family tree showing all the people who have been introduced in the first 16 pages. Put the descriptions you have written about them beside each person in the family tree. You may wish to put this up in your room next to the poster your team created.  As your team reads the story you may wish to create a family tree for the Rileys as well.

Challenge 3:

Read pages 16-19 ( top of page). Lily, the main character in the story starts to tell us a bit about her Dad and his attitude to the Rileys who have just moved in next door.
Each person in your team is to write one sentence about Lily's Dad and his feelings towards the Rileys.
E-mail your team's descriptions to the
Two Hands Together Mail List twohands@teacher.schools.net.au and read through what others have written. Are they similar or different to your team's ideas?

Challenge 4:

Pretend your team is from the local newspaper and that your job is to interview the Riley family as the new people in the neighborhood. Think up 2 interesting questions for each member of the Riley household, along with the answers you think they would give. Draw a family portrait to go with the interviews. It can be done on paper or on computer. Put your team's name at the bottom of  your picture. Remember to save your file with a .gif or .jpeg extension. If you used paper and your school has a scanner or digital camera, scan or photograph your picture and save it as a computer jpeg file.  E-mail your picture and the interview to Two Hands Together Maintainer raffaela@teacher.schools.net.au so we can see what each team has come up with.

Each person in your team is to take one of the characters mentioned in pages 98-101 and write down the feelings that person would be having. Have a go acting out your character to your group, trying to express how you think that person would have felt.
