Nips XI by Ruth Starke
Review by Mark, Sean and Nick the MSN team

Nips XI is a well written book by Ruth Starke and is suitable for the ages from 11 to 15.
Who will win the cricket match? Kings or the Nips?ƯAnd what does it mean to win?

Nips XI is about a young boy called Lan who instead of dancing and eating multicultural food for multicultural week, wants to play a game of cricket to be the same, not different. But everyone thinks Nips can't play cricket. Lan has to face many obstacles like finding a cricket coach, a way to pay their cricket coach, finding some cricket equipment and where to play the match of cricket. The greatest obstacle is the team can't play cricket.

We think that the plot of Nips XI is a sophisticated book because Ruth Starke has a way of making the story real life like because she is good at describing everything so you feel as though you are actually there.  Also when she finishes each chapter she has a way of writing it, so you always want to read onto the next chapter.

Nips XI is a contemporary realistic fiction book which means it could happen in real life. The characters have real life personalities in real life situations. Lan is very determined to put his cricket team together and won't stop at the word NO. Spinner McGinty left test cricket because of people sledging and ruining the game. Mr and Mrs Nguyen are very strict in their Vietnamese culture of all work and no play.

We give this book 7/10 because it had a very good plot and is written in a real life situation.
