Nips XI
A book review by Lincoln

NIPS XI, by Ruth Starke is a well written novel for 10 + years and helps people realise that you should never give up. Lan is the main character and doesn't like multicultural week so he decides to have a cricket match. He gathered friends and family and learnt how to play cricket.

I reckon Lan is a realistic character with a very good talent of not giving up and working till he gets his way. I thought all the characters in the story were realistic and most of them changed for the better. Lan's parents changed the most from 'all work no play' to letting him play cricket and doing aussie things.

Ruth Starke is a good writer because she puts fun into her book, is very creative with using acronyms like North Ilaba Primary School = NIPS and idioms like, 'Is the Pope catholic?', inventing great characters like Lan and his parents, and using interesting sentences at the end of the chapter to make you want to read on.

With her book she has influenced readers to never give up and proved that people from different countries can do the same thing, like cricket, even though their country has never done it before.

I think that Ruth Starke's NIPS XI was a very good story and I give it 9/10
