The IECC service is an excellent resource for locating online collaborative project starter lessons. Here you will find many suggestions for classroom projects.

Reading Enriches Learning The Curriculum Corporation's new Reading Enriches Learning resources include high interest books aimed at reluctant readers. Suggestions on using the books are provided on-line.

Anglo-Australian Observatory of Astronomical Images: David Malin, Adjunct Professor of Scientific Photography at Royal Melbourne
Institute of Technology (RMIT), has created this "gateway to a unique collection of wide-field astronomical photographs." These awe-striking photographs were mostly taken with the telescopes of the Anglo-Australian
Observatory and include photos of galaxies, emission and reflection nebulae, supernovae, star clusters, messier objects, and more.

The Skyscraper page: Students integrate the use of mathematics, mapping skills and design.
By comparing the height of skyscrapers or the locating of skyscrapers on a world map, students will develop skills, as well as being able to take part in on line activities. The content in this site could be used in Mathematics, Visual Arts as well as History and Geography.


Museum Victoria provides a wide range of education activities for schools, individuals and groups of all ages through Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks Museum (including the Melbourne Planetarium), Immigration Museum and Museum Outreach programs.

AdCracker: Advertising and marketing is a topic across a number of KLA's. AdCracker looks at how the buyer buys, how ads can make people think, feel and act, and how to create a brand. Creative Games and the Idea Machine (you'll find these in AdCreative) can be adapted into classroom activities.


Quit provides education materials, professional development and telephone consultancy to support schools. There is a vast quantity of information about tobacco available. Quit works to filter this information and provide it to teachers in a useable format.

Molecular Expressions: The Silicon Zoo
Although most of us will never examine a computer chip under a microscope, computer engineers are showing their creative side by hiding silicon artwork in a chip's layout. The Silicon Zoo has a collection of highly-magnified images that showcase the designer's talent, and each image is accompanied by an interesting explanation. There are many interesting sections of The Silicon Zoo, so be sure to explore!

If there is an emphasis on using multimedia tools in your school you may be wanting your students to create mp3 or wav files. The Jeskola Buzz site offers freeware and advice on doing just that.



Marksbook Software A program to assist teachers monitor, record and analyse students results. This program is able to create a table showing the level achieved by each student in each assessment either numerically with grades or in terms of Outcome descriptors or Outcome levels. It also enables teachers to simply and easily enter students scores and achievements then view them in a graph form. All results can be printed. This program uses a spreadsheet format in Microsoft Excel which is both PC and Mac compatible.

The highly regarded Economist magazine has compiled a list of the latest facts and figures on most countries around the world. There is useful information here for al KLA's and is suitable for Upper Primary and all levels of Secondary.

The page includes a description of the composition of Earth, an explanation of its crust, and many other "earthly" details. 'Discovernet' Australian Tales is a collection of Australian Tales which have been grouped together as useful student and teacher resources for studies in all the Key Learning Areas. Students and teachers are able to browse through the alphabetical listing of stories and through the alphabetical listing of tiny tales.

The NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory: The NOAA Aeronomy Laboratory site has an excellent diagram of the regions of the atmosphere and pages dealing with atmospheric environmental issues such as ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect.
The K8 Aeronautics Internet Textbook: Principles of Aeronautics -- Atmosphere: covers many atmospheric topics. The subjects of this on-line book include the evolution of Earth and its layers, heat, wind, clouds, weather and climate, deforestation, and pollution. Interactive quizzes monitor the students' understanding of the facts presented, and related lesson plans are provided.


myfuture information service has been designed to give students assistance in 'career' related topics.

Puzzles of the Earth: Puzzles of the Earth details the creation of the continents according to the Pangaea theory, describes plate tectonics, and identifies geographical features and what causes them. Interactive quizzes and games make the site an enjoyable challenge for students.

Savage Earth is yet another great Web resource that you can use to teach students about the movements of our planet's tectonic plates. A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust: The activities have been developed for teachers to use as a guide. The intent is to give teachers a framework to follow for use in a Holocaust unit of study. The philosophy behind the activities is based on constructivist pedagogy, brain-based learning and the awareness of the theory of multiple intelligences. The student activities in the guide have been divided into three sections by suggested grade level. Nonetheless, teachers should carefully consider the appropriateness of any activity for their particular classes rather than depending entirely upon the grade level suggestion of the lesson plan author.
