World School
Years 5-6, and 7-12, with emphasis on higher years.
WorldSchool has recently been taken over by Curriculum Corporation, and is moving to an Australia-wide focus. Specially tailored for Senior subjects with a large enrolments, World School contains:

  • Wordbank (definitions)
  • Infobank (Encyclopedia-type information)
  • Linkbank (internet links, topic-based)

Best way of finding out what is on WorldSchool is a Directory Browse.

EdNA (Education Network Australia): Do a Browse search, choose School Education, then Online Resource Centre. Then choose your curriculum area. Inside each curriculum area, you will find general internet links according to topic, and at the bottom there are lesson plans and units of instruction. Take a look at the Web Quests in these areas. K-12

HSC Online: This web site is being redeveloped and is different from the old HSC Online, in that it provides very specific guidance and examples. Mostly of use to NSW HSC, but other states may find relevance. K11-12

Studentnet: This is a very useful site, sponsored by Optus,providing free membership. It has a K-12 perspective.

SOFWeb (Schools of the Future): This is the Victorian Department of Education official site. It contains curriculum resources by KLA, as well as collaborative projects, and IdeaBank, which is a database of teaching ideas for all KLAs. See also the Resource Centre. Use the search facility, or just browse by KLA.K-12

CMIS Evaluation: This is the official site of the Education Department of Western Australia. Curriculum resources contains elearning, information literacy, online research modules, pathfinders and professional resources.K-12

Network for Education This is the official site of the NSW Department of Education and Training.The best way of navigating it is to go to the site map. Highly useful in Curriculum resources are the KLA reviews, hot links, teachers ideas, feature articles, resource reviews, and access to the Department's publication for teachers and teacher-librarians, Scan.K-12

OzProjects An Online Projects Resource. Here’s an excellent web site for teachers and students seeking online projects. This extensive OzProjects site is an initiative of the EdNA Schools Project, funded by SA DETE and Commonwealth of Australia. K-12

Project Atmosphere Australia This web site is an award winning resource to do with all things atmospheric. Starting September, students can measure the weather for two weeks, and send the results to an email list, investigate local areas for beliefs and sayings, students can pose a question for the project's meteorologists to answer, altogether there are a multitude of fun and exciting activities in which students can join.K-12

Space Day: The goal of Space Day is to advance science, math, and technology education and to inspire young people to realize the vision of our space pioneers. A website designed to give students a glimpse of what it is like to live and work in space. This site is designed around 'Space Day' which is being held celebrated on 'May 3rd'. This site gives students the possibility of participating in webcast live via satellite from USA. Viewers can participate in live polls and quizzes and by asking questions of the guests via e-mail. This year, students can also post questions for webcast guests in advance on the Space Day discussion board at http://www.epals.com/forum/spaceday/forum.e. and log on to the webcast to hear the answers in real time. Spark Notes : If you are looking for background notes on almost any curriculum area then you'll find them here. The site provides a good summary of a wide range of topics including everything from literature, astronomy, poetry, history, biology, biographies, computer science, Shakespeare, philosophy, economics, mathematics, chemistry, physics and psychology, to health and nutrition.

Safety on the internet.:Probably the best set of notes available on this topic. These should be issued to every students before they start using the Internet and referred to regularly. They should also be part of your Internet Policy Statement.

Harnessing the Web :This is an excellent collection of ideas and classroom concepts that encourage the use of student centred, project based activities that incorporate the use of information technologies in the classroom. The Global Schoolnet Foundation has put the contents of their CD ROM on the Internet and here you can find out about collaborative project based learning, Internet research, building a collaborative web project, references, readings and resources. A host of Power Point workshop slides that they have made available.

International Education and Resource Network :Global student projects that 'can make a difference'. This is an excellent example of the potential of the Internet as a vehicle for social change. Students are encouraged to work with other students from around the world to tackle social issues. To be part of I Earn project you must register as a school and post an application to join a learning circle.
